Janet Hasson, Gannett veteran, named president, publisher of The Providence Journal
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Janet Hasson, who since 2011 has been president and publisher of the Gannett-owned Journal News Media Group in White Plains, N.Y., is set to become the new president and publisher of The Providence Journal.
GateHouse Media, the owner of The Providence Journal, announced her appointment on Friday. The Gannett Co. announced on Thursday that she was resigning from the Journal News Media Group effective March 6.
Hasson, a 30-year veteran of the newspaper industry who has also worked in Detroit and Washington state, will begin her new position at The Journal on March 16.
“I am thrilled to join GateHouse Media and particularly honored to lead The Providence Journal,” Hasson said in a statement.
